Providence
House Welcomes Herb Reed and The Platters
Residents of Providence House Senior Living Community gave Herb Reed
and The Platters a rousing welcome, befitting the 50th
anniversary of the group’s first blockbuster record, “Only You” (And
You Alone). Snapping their fingers and moving to the beat,
residents recently enjoyed the trip down memory lane, as The
Platters performed some of their greatest hits, including “The
Great Pretender” and “Smoke Gets in
Your Eyes.” More than 200 residents and their families attended
the concert, enjoying the rock n’ roll and rhythm n’ blues music of
their youth.
Providence House Senior Living Community at Corey Park offers
distinctive affordable apartment homes to seniors 62 years old and
older. The community features 102 spacious and attractive
one-bedroom and studio apartments. Corey Park is Boston’s first
continuum of care campus, offering independent and assisted living
with supportive services, as well as the new Brighton House
Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Both Providence House and
Brighton House are managed by Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group.
In 1953, Reed formed The Platters, naming the group after the term
disc jockeys at the time used to describe records. The group has
sold more than 89 million records and has recorded just under 400
songs. In 1990, The Platters were inducted into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame.

Reed is donating
all net proceeds from The Platters “Journey of Hope” CD to the
American Red Cross. The group, playing to a full house at Providence
House, now features (from left to right) Herb Reed, Wayne Miller,
William Newton, D.D. Martin and Billy Cox. The two musicians
standing behind the front row are Kevin Nelson, bass; and Chris
Nelson, guitar. Not shown are: Jeff Williams, keyboard and Arthur
Simonelli, Musical Director/Percussion.
